Toshi Straps logo reels of thread

There are few things worse than having a well loved watch strap fall apart on you. With many straps sewn by machine, if a stitch gets cut or torn it can quite quickly lead to the stitching unravelling, and often the end of the straps life. I decided that all my watch straps would be hand stitched to prevent this happening, and so all Toshi straps are hand stitched using a method which double stitches the strap to prevent unravelling.

The stitch I use has been traditionally used by saddle makers for decades, and the process involves sewing the leather with two needles simultaneously. The first stitch is the main stitch, and the second locks the first stitch in place. This means that if any stitch was to be cut it will not spread.

You can see examples of the three main stitch patterns I use when building my straps here.

I only use linen thread. This is because linen is far more rot resistant than cotton, and I expect my straps to last a long time and have a hard life.

I currently have 16 different colours of linen thread available to combine with your chosen leather. To see a page showing the thread colours please see the thread colour page.
